Still Life with Latex

for solo percussionist with visual accompaniment

1999

Still Life with Latex is scored for a solo percussionist playing a variety of fairly conventional instruments including drums, metals, and found objects. There are also a number of unconventional instruments that he or she must play. These include balloons, a trampoline, wind chimes, a whirling plastic tube, and enormous shakers constructed with cut metal pipes and cooking pots. Additionally, the performer is asked to hum, sing, blow air, and play harmonica. With the assistance of an offstage performer many visual and audio events occur contrapuntally to the percussionist. Balloons light, are blown into the air, balloons fall from the ceiling, and wind chimes are blown.
